“The Medici wine road  of Carmignano” is a project that the Pro Loco,  together with the Consorzio di Tutela and the wine producers of the area, has created and followed since its birth with the assistance of the Province of Prato and the municipality of Carmignano. Subsequently, also other entities and bodies such as the Chamber of Commerce, the Azienda di Promozione Turistica of Prato, the Pro Loco and the municipality of Poggio a Caiano, manufacturers, hoteliers, restaurateurs and other private tour operators joined this project .
The idea follows immediately after a regional initiative. In particular, a law issued in 1996 regulates the Wine Routes in Tuscany. Originally nine, today there are fourteen. The model is a bit like that of Burgundy. For years, the Carmignano wine, well known and appreciated abroad, has been considered as a potential ambassador for this beautiful land and its heritage. Moreover,  wine is increasingly becoming the symbol of an entire province (that of Prato).The tourists who come to Montalbano will be able to look for good wine and visit the Wine and Territory Museum which opened its doors in October 1999 in the basement of the Town Hall. Visitors will also have the opportunity to enjoy good food,  as well as the beauty and tranquility of this corner of Tuscany, which is very close to the most important artistic cities of our region.
We believe that the wine road should become a way of life, a new opportunity to combine culture and tourism. (Wf)
